Features

The TIMEMORE Black Mirror Basic 3 is a rechargeable coffee scale with a built-in timer, made by TIMEMORE. It weighs from 0.2g to 2000g and reads to 0.1g, and a multifunction slider switches it between three timer modes — Standard, Pour-Over and Espresso — with live flow rate and coffee-to-water ratio on the display. The chassis is 20mm thin and 300g, rated IPX3, and runs up to 24 hours of screen-on time from a 1600mAh USB-C battery.

Three timer modes on one slider

The slider on the side of the scale both powers it on and chooses the mode, so there is no menu to page through. In Espresso mode the scale tares when you set the cup down, starts timing on the first drop of coffee and stops when you lift the cup away. Pour-Over mode adds the same hands-free timing plus a live coffee-to-water ratio: press and hold the ratio button, add your dose, tap to confirm, and the ratio updates as you pour. Standard mode leaves the timer under your control, with flow rate and ratio still on screen. TIMEMORE's own guidance is that the pour-over auto-timer needs about 50g of water within roughly 40 seconds to trigger (TIMEMORE user guide, as published by the retailer Opresso).

0.1g to 2kg, with a shield against interference

TIMEMORE rates the Basic 3 at 0.1g accuracy over a 0.2g–2000g range, with the tolerance widening as the load grows: 0.1g from 0.2g to 500g, 1g from 500g to 1000g and 3g from 1000g to 2000g (manufacturer-rated). A custom load cell sits under an electromagnetic shield built into the chassis, which TIMEMORE says deflects interference from magnetic dosing cups, tampers and nearby machines — the case where an espresso scale most often drifts.

20mm thin, 300g, IPX3

The Basic 3 measures 140 × 120 × 20mm and weighs 300g, which TIMEMORE describes as roughly 25% lighter and 35% more compact than the previous generation (manufacturer claim). At 20mm it clears most portafilters on a drip tray, and the IPX3 rating covers the splashes and spills of everyday brewing rather than immersion.

A mat that wraps the chassis and flips over

The silicone mat is thicker than the one TIMEMORE shipped before and wraps the scale edge to edge, so it grips the chassis instead of sliding off while you brew. Turn it over and the underside is a contoured portafilter rest with deep channels that lead spills away from the scale.

24 hours of screen-on time over USB-C

A 1600mAh 3.7V lithium-ion battery gives up to 24 hours of continuous screen-on use and recharges in about 3.5 hours over USB Type-C (manufacturer-rated). TIMEMORE puts that at roughly 280 five-minute pour-overs per charge. Its user guide asks you to charge from a normal 5V 1–2A source and not a fast charger.

FAQ

What is the TIMEMORE Black Mirror Basic 3?

The TIMEMORE Black Mirror Basic 3 is a rechargeable electronic coffee scale with a built-in timer, made by TIMEMORE. It reads to 0.1g over a 0.2g–2000g range and has three timer modes — Standard, Pour-Over and Espresso — chosen on a slider on the side of the body. It measures 140 × 120 × 20mm, weighs 300g, is rated IPX3 and runs up to 24 hours of screen-on time from a 1600mAh USB-C battery.

How do the three timer modes work?

Espresso mode tares automatically when you place the cup, starts the timer on the first drop of coffee and stops when you lift the cup away, so you never touch the scale mid-shot. Pour-Over mode works the same way from your first pour and adds a live coffee-to-water ratio: press and hold the ratio button, add the dose, tap to confirm, and the ratio tracks as you brew. Standard mode gives you manual timer control with flow rate and ratio still shown. You switch between them with the slider on the side rather than through a menu.

How accurate is the Basic 3, and up to what weight?

TIMEMORE rates it at 0.1g readability with a 0.2g–2000g range. The stated tolerance widens with the load: 0.1g from 0.2g to 500g, 1g from 500g to 1000g and 3g from 1000g to 2000g. So it is a 0.1g scale for doses, shots and normal brews, and a coarser one if you use the full 2kg to weigh a bag of beans.

Will an espresso machine or a magnetic dosing cup upset the readings?

TIMEMORE builds an electromagnetic shield into the chassis over the load cell for exactly this reason, and says it deflects interference from magnetic tools and nearby devices. That is the main change it cites over the previous generation for espresso use. It is a manufacturer claim rather than an independently measured figure.

Can I use it under an espresso machine portafilter?

Yes. The body is 20mm thin, which leaves clearance under most group heads, and the silicone mat flips over to a contoured portafilter rest with channels that guide spills away from the scale. Whether it fits your machine depends on the height between your drip tray and spouts — measure that against the 20mm body plus the mat before ordering.

Is the Basic 3 waterproof?

It is IPX3 water-resistant, which covers splashes and spills during brewing. One stockist adds that the top surface of the scale is waterproof. IPX3 is not an immersion rating, so do not submerge it, run it under a tap or put it in a dishwasher.

How long does the battery last and how do I charge it?

The 1600mAh battery gives up to 24 hours of screen-on time and recharges in about 3.5 hours over USB Type-C — TIMEMORE puts that at roughly 280 five-minute pour-overs per charge. Its user guide asks you to use a normal 5V 1–2A charger rather than a fast charger, and to trickle-charge from a computer USB port first if the scale has been left flat for a long time.

Does it connect to a phone app or Bluetooth?

No. TIMEMORE does not list any Bluetooth or app connection for the Basic 3 — the timer, weight, flow rate and ratio are all read on the scale's own display. If you want brew graphs logged on a phone, this is not the scale for that.

What is the body made of?

TIMEMORE does not publish a materials breakdown for the Basic 3 in its specification table, so we do not state one. What the brand does confirm is a 300g, 20mm-thin chassis with a mirror-finish top panel over a hidden LED display, and a removable silicone mat over the weighing surface.

What comes in the box?

The Basic 3 scale, the wrap-around silicone mat that reverses into a portafilter rest, a USB Type-C charging cable and an instruction manual.
