MAVO Aurora Electric Coffee Grinder

The MAVO Aurora Electric Coffee Grinder is a portable, rechargeable burr grinder made by MAVO (model AEG-01). It pairs a 38mm Six-Star conical burr in 420 stainless steel with 140 click settings at 0.025mm, runs on two 1100mAh cells charged over USB-C, and has a detachable motor unit that swaps for an included manual crank handle — so a flat battery never leaves you with half a dose. It weighs 543g and packs into a hard carrying case.

Electric when you want it, manual when you need it

The motor unit lifts off the top of the grinder and the included crank handle fits the same drive shaft. If the battery runs flat mid-grind, you finish the dose by hand instead of tipping out half-ground beans. In manual form the grinder stands 142mm tall and weighs 387g, against 205mm and 543g with the motor fitted (manufacturer-rated).

Six-Star conical burr in 420 stainless steel

MAVO's Six-Star burr set is cut on a 5-axis CNC machine from 420 stainless steel hardened to 58–65 HRC, with an outer burr of 38mm and an inner burr of 29.5mm (manufacturer-rated). The reworked tooth geometry is aimed at uniformity and at light to medium roasts, the hardest beans for a small motor to cut. Dual stainless steel ball bearings hold the central shaft steady so the burr gap stays consistent.

Measured grind distribution

MAVO publishes its own lab measurements: at 32 clicks, 61.9% of particles fall between 500 and 900µm and only 0.5% below 315µm; at 42 clicks the curve shifts coarser, with 33.4% between 900 and 1200µm (manufacturer-measured, MAVO lab). These are the brand's figures, not an independent test, but few portable grinders publish any distribution data at all.

140 clicks, 0.025mm each

The grind dial has 40 clicks per rotation and 140 clicks in total, each moving the burrs 0.025mm (manufacturer-rated). MAVO's starting points: espresso 5–20 clicks, Moka pot 15–30, pour-over 35–55 and cold brew 45–70.

Torque for light roasts, auto-stop for safety

MAVO rates the motor at up to 45 kg·cm of torque and times a 15g pour-over dose at about 55 seconds and an 18g espresso dose at about 1 minute 35 seconds. A sensor stops the motor when the chamber is empty, and also if the burrs jam or meet a foreign object, protecting both motor and burrs.

A battery you can read at a glance

Two 1100mAh cells (2200mAh in total) give up to 75 pour-over or 25 espresso doses per full charge. The USB-C port is fast-charge compatible — about 2.5 hours for a full charge, or 15 minutes for roughly 5 pour-over doses — and runs from a power bank, laptop or car charger (all manufacturer-rated). The ring around the start button tells you the state: breathing white while grinding, breathing red for low battery, breathing green while charging, solid green when full.

Built for the bag, and the portafilter

The semi-transparent body lets you watch the grind, and the 25g grounds bin fits directly onto a 58mm portafilter, so espresso doses go from grinder to basket with little mess. Everything — grinder, motor unit, crank handle, brush and cable — packs into the zip-up hard carrying case with a wrist strap.
