The Crystal Eye VECTOR is a 01-size pour over coffee dripper made by TIMEMORE and co-designed with Matt Winton, the 2021 World Brewers Cup Champion. Designed with a World Brewers Cup Champion

Matt Winton, 2021 World Brewers Cup Champion and a member of TIMEMORE's Advisory Board, brought TIMEMORE a counterintuitive idea: more contact points between the paper filter and the dripper wall can make coffee flow faster, not slower. The VECTOR's internal geometry is built around that idea. TIMEMORE's aim is a brewer that performs at the level competition baristas need while staying forgiving for everyday brewing at home.

3-zone, 5-layer flow structure

Inside the cone, three zones work in sequence. The upper Stabilization Zone holds pressure between the filter paper and the body; a narrow Sealing Zone forms a pressure barrier between the upper and lower sections; and the lower Acceleration Zone, split into three layers, is a negative-pressure area that increases the flow rate step by step towards the outlet. TIMEMORE's stated goal is steady extraction from the first pour to the last drop, with less channeling and none of the late-stage stalls that over-extract lighter roasts.

Staggered anti-channeling lattice

The inner wall is a dense, staggered network of contact points rather than a few long ribs. TIMEMORE says it spreads water evenly across the coffee bed to prevent channels, and that as the brew converges towards the spout the narrowing geometry accelerates drawdown. In TIMEMORE's own flow-rate comparison against its Turbo dripper (12.5g of washed coffee ground on a Sculptor 078 at setting 12.5; bloom of 30g, then three 70g pours), the VECTOR reaches a higher flow rate and drains sooner on every pour.

Six vents and high-airflow grooves

Six perimeter vents keep the upper chamber open to the air, equalising the pressure inside and outside the brewer. TIMEMORE says this keeps the paper filter seated properly against the walls, so pre-infusion proceeds evenly and the flow rate stays predictable. Airflow grooves through the lattice let the bed breathe and reduce the chance of the brew stalling.

304 stainless steel core, insulated sleeve

The part that touches the coffee is a 304 stainless steel Brewer Core, which TIMEMORE says reaches thermal equilibrium with the coffee bed quickly and holds it longer. Around it, a food-grade ABS insulated Thermal Sleeve limits heat loss to the room and keeps the outside cool to hold. TIMEMORE's extraction-temperature chart comparing glass, Tritan and metal versions shows the metal curve holding slightly higher in the later part of a brew. A precision-threaded locking ring clamps the assembly together and unscrews just as easily for cleaning.

Made for 01 filters, sized for bigger doses

The VECTOR takes standard 01 cone filter papers, the most widely available size in specialty coffee. TIMEMORE says the internal geometry stretches further than most 01 cones, taking doses from 10g up to 18g without the choking that smaller drippers run into at higher doses — so one compact brewer covers a single cup and a larger brew.

What is the TIMEMORE x Matt Winton Crystal Eye VECTOR Dripper?

The VECTOR is a 01-size cone pour over dripper from TIMEMORE's Crystal Eye series, co-designed with 2021 World Brewers Cup Champion Matt Winton. It pairs a 304 stainless steel Brewer Core with a food-grade ABS insulated Thermal Sleeve, and uses a 3-zone, 5-layer internal structure with a dense lattice of contact points that TIMEMORE designed to speed up and stabilise drawdown. It takes standard 01 paper filters and 10–18g of coffee, weighs about 390g and measures 107 × 107 × 76mm without its 15mm base.

Why would more contact points make coffee flow faster?

That is Matt Winton's insight behind the design. In a conventional cone the wet paper clings to the smooth wall and restricts airflow, which slows drawdown. The VECTOR supports the paper on many small, staggered contact points with airflow grooves between them, plus six vents at the top, so air can move around the filter; TIMEMORE's lower Acceleration Zone then creates negative pressure that increases flow towards the outlet. TIMEMORE's flow-rate chart shows it draining faster than its own Turbo dripper under the same recipe. These are manufacturer claims and charts, not independent measurements.

Which filter papers does it use, and how much coffee can it brew?

It uses standard 01 cone filter papers, the most common specialty size, and TIMEMORE rates it for doses from 10g to 18g. That upper limit is higher than many 01 cones, which tend to choke at larger doses. TIMEMORE does not list filter papers among the parts, so plan to have a pack of 01 filters on hand.

Is the VECTOR metal or plastic?

Both. The Brewer Core — the part that holds the filter and touches the coffee — is 304 stainless steel. It sits inside a black Thermal Sleeve made of food-grade ABS plastic, which insulates the core and gives you a cool surface to hold. The base is black as well. If you want an all-metal or all-glass brewer, this is not that.

Can I use the stainless steel Brewer Core without the Thermal Sleeve?

No. TIMEMORE warns to always brew with the Thermal Sleeve fitted to prevent burns, and never to use the Brewer Core on its own. The stainless steel core gets hot quickly with brewing water — that is part of its design — so the sleeve is what makes it safe to handle.

Does the stainless steel core keep the brew hotter than glass or plastic drippers?

TIMEMORE says the 304 stainless steel core reaches thermal equilibrium with the coffee bed quickly and holds it longer, while the insulated sleeve limits heat loss. The difference in that chart is small, so treat it as fine-tuning rather than a dramatic change; it is a manufacturer chart, not an independent test.

Is it good for light roasts?

TIMEMORE designed it with light roasts in mind: the stated goal of the Acceleration Zone and lattice is to prevent the late-stage stalls that over-extract and flatten lighter roasts, and to allow higher extraction without choking. It is a fast brewer, so if you are used to a slower cone you may need to grind somewhat finer to reach the same contact time.

How do I clean it? Is it dishwasher safe?

The assembly is clamped by a precision-threaded locking ring that TIMEMORE says unscrews easily, so the Brewer Core, sleeve and base can be separated and rinsed. Wash it by hand: one stockist's specification states that the VECTOR is not dishwasher-safe, and TIMEMORE does not publish a dishwasher rating. A soft brush helps clear coffee grounds from between the lattice points.

How heavy is it, and is it suitable for travel?

It weighs about 390g, which is several times heavier than a typical plastic cone dripper, and its brewer measures 107 × 107 × 76mm with a separate 107mm-wide, 15mm-thick base. It is built as a home and café brewer with a solid feel; for a light travel kit, a plastic or collapsible dripper will pack more easily.

What comes in the box?
