Features

The TIMEMORE x MILLAB E01 is a cordless, rechargeable electric burr grinder made by MILLAB, the grinder team born from TIMEMORE's Sculptor project. It uses TIMEMORE's patented S2C890 Spike to Cut burr, offers 60 grind steps of 0.025mm, and runs on two 2500mAh cells charged over USB-C — enough for over 130 pour-over doses per charge. Beans go straight into the top; one button starts it. Red Dot winner 2024.

Load the beans, press the button

The motor sits at the top of the grinder, above the burr, so there is nothing to take apart before grinding: lift the lid, pour beans into the chamber and press the button on the side. Grounds collect in the cup at the base, and the grinder stands upright in its stand between uses.

S2C890 burr: Spike to Cut

S2C890 is TIMEMORE's own patented burr, first used in this grinder. Its Spike to Cut geometry breaks each bean into smaller pieces before the cutting teeth finish the grind, which TIMEMORE says gives a more uniform grind and a sweeter, cleaner cup, especially for pour-over. MILLAB publishes a particle size curve for it peaking around 800–1000 microns (manufacturer-published).

60 steps of 0.025mm

The grind collar carries 20 numbered settings, and a patented point-to-point adjustment mechanism splits them into 60 steps, each moving the burr by 0.025mm (manufacturer-rated). A steel ball damping structure gives each step a positive feel so settings are repeatable. MILLAB's starting points: espresso 0–4 clicks, moka pot 4–6, pour-over 9–18 and French press 16–20; the first three are printed on the collar itself.

Dual 2500mAh battery, USB-C charging

Two 2500mAh lithium-ion cells (5000mAh, 18.5Wh) sit in a trident-shaped frame around the bean chamber, which is how a 72mm-wide body still holds 50g of beans. In MILLAB's practical tests a full charge grinds more than 130 servings of 15g pour-over or more than 30 servings of 20g espresso. It charges over USB Type-C at 5V; the published specification recommends a 1–2A adaptor, rules out fast chargers to protect the cells, and gives a maximum charging time of 4 hours.

Stops itself, clears its own jams

MILLAB's Resistance Induction System (RIS) senses the load on the motor: it switches the grinder off when the beans are finished, and if the burr jams it reverses the motor to free it. After three reversals it stops completely to protect the motor and the burr.

Made to travel

The ribbed space aluminium body is 197mm tall and 72mm across. With no cable while grinding, it works the same on a worktop, a desk, a cupping table or a camp table.

FAQ

What is the TIMEMORE x MILLAB E01?

The TIMEMORE x MILLAB E01 is a cordless, rechargeable electric burr grinder made by MILLAB, a grinder team that grew out of TIMEMORE's Sculptor project. It uses TIMEMORE's patented S2C890 Spike to Cut burr, has 60 grind steps of 0.025mm, and runs on a 5000mAh battery charged over USB-C. The top-mounted motor lets you pour beans straight in and start grinding with one button. It won a Red Dot award in 2024 and comes in Black or Silver.

Can the MILLAB E01 grind for espresso?

Yes, within limits. MILLAB marks 0–4 clicks for espresso on the grind collar, and the 0.025mm steps are fine enough to dial in a shot. The E01 is tuned for clarity rather than body: UK retailer Sigma Coffee describes its espresso as lighter-bodied with bright acidity, and a 20g espresso dose takes about 90 seconds against about 30 seconds for 15g of filter (retailer-published). A full charge covers about 30 espresso doses versus 130 pour-over doses. For daily heavy espresso use, a mains-powered grinder is faster.

What grind setting should I use?

MILLAB's starting points are espresso 0–4 clicks, moka pot 4–6, pour-over 9–18 and French press 16–20. The collar has 20 numbered settings, and the point-to-point mechanism divides them into 60 steps of 0.025mm each. Start in the middle of the range for your brewer, then go finer if the coffee tastes weak or sour and coarser if it is bitter or drains slowly.

How long does the battery last and how is it charged?

A full charge of the two 2500mAh cells grinds more than 130 servings of 15g pour-over or more than 30 servings of 20g espresso, according to MILLAB's own tests. It charges through a USB Type-C port at 5V. The published specification recommends a 1–2A adaptor, says fast charging is not supported to protect the battery, and gives a maximum charging time of 4 hours.

Does the MILLAB E01 come with a wall charger?

No wall adapter is listed in the box — it comes with a USB Type-C charging cable, plus the stand, an air blower, a brush, a spray bottle, a cloth bag and the user manual. Use an ordinary 1–2A USB charger rather than a fast charger, which the published specification says the E01 does not support.

How much coffee can it grind at once?

About 50g of beans. MILLAB arranges the battery and circuit board in a trident shape around the central chamber to make room for 50g, and retailers list the grounds cup at about 30g. That covers a single dose for pour-over or espresso comfortably, or two smaller doses; it is not meant for grinding a large batch for a full cafetière in one go.

What happens if beans jam the burr?

The E01 clears most jams on its own. MILLAB's Resistance Induction System detects the extra resistance and reverses the motor to free the burr, then carries on grinding. If it has to reverse three times, it stops completely to protect the motor and burr, and you should empty the chamber and check for a stuck bean. The same system switches the grinder off when the beans are finished.

Is the MILLAB E01 heavy for a portable grinder?

It is on the heavier side. The grinder body weighs 990g and the stand another 310g, according to MILLAB — heavier than most hand grinders and than lightweight plastic portable electric grinders. The weight comes from the space aluminium body and the 5000mAh battery. For travel you can leave the stand at home; the body alone is 197mm tall and 72mm across.

How does the E01 compare with a manual hand grinder?

A good hand grinder weighs less, needs no charging and usually grinds espresso faster by hand than the E01's roughly 90 seconds per 20g dose. The E01 removes the effort entirely: pour in the beans, press one button and it stops on its own. It suits people who grind every day and want consistent results without cranking, and who are happy to charge a battery every few weeks of pour-over use.

Who makes the MILLAB E01?

MILLAB, a coffee grinder brand with its own labs and factories that develops grinders for TIMEMORE's professional line; MILLAB describes itself as born from TIMEMORE's Sculptor project. The E01 is sold as TIMEMORE x MILLAB and uses TIMEMORE's patented S2C890 burr. It carries a one-year manufacturer's warranty.
